The much awaited new Maruti swift will be rolled out from Maruti’s Manesar plant in Haryana and up till now Maruti has not shared the pricing details of all-new Swift 2011.

The car will come with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel variants. It was reported that the new model, built on a slightly longer yet new platform, will be little extra roomy, lighter and return better mileage than the current generation Swift.

Engineers have also achieved a substantial reduction in the overall weight of the car by replacing the metal fuel tank with a plastic tank. This will improve its fuel efficiency by a little over 13 per cent.
This will be the first major face-lift for the Swift since it was launched six years ago. Pricing details of the new car has not been shared by the company.

The petrol variant will return a mileage of around 20 km a litre, as compared to 17.9 km per litre certified by the Automotive Research Association of India. Similarly, the diesel model will deliver around 23.8 km per litre, as against the existing 21 km a litre.

The report stated that for installing the plastic fuel tanks, Maruti Suzuki India has tied up with France’s Plastic Omnium, the world’s largest manufacturer of plastic fuel tanks as it was mentioned that plastic fuel tanks are usually 25-35 per cent lighter than the conventional metal tanks. Besides, these are corrosion-free, durable, non-explosive and easily recyclable.
The Swift which is available now in petrol, diesel and CNG versions and priced between Rs 3.9-5.5 lakh, sells close to 12,000 units every month. It recorded a growth of 21 per cent last year selling over 140,000 units as against 116,000 units sold in the previous year.

The Swift accounts for about 25 per cent of the hatchback segment, and competes with Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia, Nissan Micra, Fiat Punto and Toyota Liva. It was also mentioned that Maruti is also preparing to launch a new Swift Dzire, which will be cheaper and will probably hit the market by early 2012.

Hyundai India decided to launch its new best selling small car i10, a facelift version. Facelift version of Hyundai i10 is expected to launch on September 23, 2010.

BMW India will launch the facelifted version of its popular BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle on September 21, 2010. Nissan Motor India Private Ltd. (NMIPL), a 100% subsidiary of Nissan Motor Limited Japan, plans to launch nine car models in India by 2012 after the successful launch of Nissan’s first product Micra. Nissan also plans to launch the diesel version of the Micra, which is going to introduce in the domestic markets by the end of the current year.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, said ‘our product launch plan to India is aggressive, as we have planned to line-up nine models by 2012, of which five models will be produced in India and four models will be the imports from Japan’.

The Micra was launched in the domestic market on July 15 this year and there was good response from the people as the company was able to sell 2110 units of Micra in just 45 days, he said.

Pointing that 2010 has been an action-packed year for Nissan India, he said, ‘after inaugurating the First Alliance Global Plant-Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Limited in March this year, we started the production of four first made in India, global compact car, the Nissan Micra’.

The made-in-India cars will be the compact hatchback, which will be launched from the Chennai plant in May, followed by its sedan version next year and three models based on V, Nissan’s new global compact car platform. Nissan India will import four car models from Japan, out of which it is already selling three, the Teana, 370Z and the X-Trail in India.

Car maker Ford India said it plans to launch eight new products in India by mid-decade, with a view to tap the country’s fast growing auto market and to make it an export hub.

Company Managing director Michael Boneham told reporters here that a significant part of the eight products would be “localised”.

To a question, he said the company ‘has to be there in the small car segment’. He, however, did not divulge details or confirm whether it would mean being present in the sub Rs three-lakh segment.

Boneham was speaking after unveiling the Ford Endeavour three litre 4×2 automatic transmission model.

Since inception, Ford has invested close to one billion dollars to expand its India operations. The company infused 500 million dollars in January 2008 to grow the vehicle manufacturing capacity in Chennai to produce 200,000 units per year and to set up a new state-of-the-art engine manufacturing plant with a capacity of 250,000 units both for domestic and export markets.

Overwhelmed by the response received from India Boneham said that Figo has had a “fantastic” response with 30,000 cars sold in the first 25 weeks in India. Boneham said that the company “plans to be a serious player in India” and would “continue to invest in India” to grow and mark our presence across segments.

Besides, he added that Ford India is optimistic about growth in the Rs 15-20 lakh segment as well going by the strides taken by the economy.

He, however, admitted that there are issues over raw material and input costs in terms of logistics and transport. The company would observe what the competitors do before coming up with a strategy, he added.

Talking about the growth plans he said it encompasses exporting to 50 new markets, including South Africa where Figo is among the top 10 players. “They are chasing us for more products but there are supply constraints,” Boneham said.

The other markets it hopes to cater from India include Mexico and northern Africa.

Commenting on recruitment plans he said there are plans to hire engineers and technicians to make up for attrition levels, which are as per industry standards.

The Indian Auto giant Maruti Suzuki has launched a limited edition variant of Ritz called Ritz Genus to celebrate one year of Ritz in India. The limited edition Maruti Ritz Genus is equipped with keyless entry, a rear wipe/wash, parcel tray and audio system.

The limited edition Ritz Genus is priced at Rs 4,52,000 ex-showroom, Delhi for the Ritz Genus Vxi (petrol) and Rs 5,31,000 for the Ritz Genus Vdi (diesel). The Ritz Genus would be available in only the VXi versions of Petrol and Diesel variants.
