The featured $35 laptop, world’s cheapest laptop, which was launched by HRD Minister of India, Mr Kapit Sibbal two month ago, the HCL Infosystems has bagged the contract to manufacture 100,000 units.
The HCL Technologies has announced that the company would that the company would develop over 100,000 of world’s cheapest priced Touchscreen Tablet PC, in association with the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India. This touch screen tablet is expected to be prices at Rs. 1,650 or $35.

The $35 tablet PC is expectd to launche by 10 January, 2011 and will come in three versions of 5, 7, and 9 inches display.

The HRD minister Kapil sibbal announced that they are looking for global partner for the mass production of $35 touchscreen laptop. Meanwhile, the IIT-Rajasthan will carry out intensive laboratory and field tests of this $35 tablet PC across the country. IIT-Rajasthan is to conduct field trials in different parts of the country, at different times and under different weather conditions, to gauge the efficiency of the computers.

This low cost computing device, has 8.9×7-inch touch screen, weighing 1.5kg, is not as advanced as laptop, but it will support video, web conferencing, PDF reader, unzip tool, computing programmes such as Open Office, an input-output interface option for allowing IPTV, digital TV and media players, among other things that are required by college going students. It is supposed to be based on the Android OS.

This is the first successful effort of government of India to provide low cost computing devices to students. Five years ago, US-based One Laptop Per Child Association Inc. offered computers at $100 in India but the ministry decline.

$35 laptop is good news for the students but in near future it could see a lot of competition as many Private Indian and international companies are looking to launch low cost variants of tablets and e-readers.

Sushil Kumar, makes a history, he become the first Indian Wrestler to win gold at World Wrestling Championship in Moscow on Sunday. He defeat Alan Gogaev of Russia in straight set in the final of the 66Kg free style category at the Olympiskiy Sports Center in Moscow.

The 27 years old, Najafgarh wrestler won the bronze medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics, once again proofs the dominance in his category. The World champion wrestler Sushil kumar is known for his power game, went on the offensive at the start of the first two-minute round in the final bout. He used his leg take-down moves to unsettle the technically sound Russian and scored two quick points.

On his way to the final, Sushil convincingly defeated Anastasios Akritidis of Greece (6-0), Martin Sebastian Daum of Germany (4-1) and Batzorig Buyanjar of Mongolia (9-1) before rallying to beat reigning European champion Jabrayil Hasanov of Azerbaijan (4-3).

The other World championship medallists from India were Uday Chand (bronze in 1961), Bishambhar Singh (silver in 1967) and Alka Tomar (bronze in 2006).

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President G.S. Mander was quick to hail Sushil’s feat.

“Sushil had proved his mettle at every level and now he has done it at the World level. It is a big thing to be the World, Asian and Commonwealth champion at the same time,” Mander said.

Sushil Kumar is presently employed by the Indian Railways as a Chief Ticketing Inspector.

Sushil Kumar was born into a Solanki Jat family and hails from the village Baprola in New Delhi. Kumar’s father Diwan Singh Solanki was an MTNL bus driver and mother Kamla Devi a housewife.

Delhi is on high alert after the Hathnikund barrage on the Yamuna releases more than 6 lakh cusec of water on Sept 8, 2010.

According to central water commission, due to heavy rain in hilly area, the quantity of water being released at Hathnikund could went up from 29,262 cusec to 6,07,076 cusec.
